Carried Away...

She sat down on the bench near the huge iron gate of the park. Miscellaneous sounds of vehicles hummed through the busy city roads, while the setting Sun kissed the sky into a vibrant shade of vermilion.  She was waiting, anxious, curious… her mind filled with different kinds of thoughts- insecurity, anxiety, longing and worries. She had been promised, that she would be met there, right at 6 pm. She had been waiting there since the mentioned time, for half an hour now.

Her mind kept drifting away, but she tried to remain focused, so that she doesn’t miss the arrival of her guest. Birds were returning to their nests, and making an uncertain (and partly unwanted) chaos over that. The winds kept sweeping off the dust and dry leaves scattered on the park pathway. The huge canopies of the trees, which gave a pleasant shade in the morning, were casting a mysterious darkness over the benches against the neon lights. Every object around her seemed to “go-with-the-flow”, except her. Her heart seemed to stop with time. She could not wait longer.

Every minute seemed to get longer… and her impatient mind filled with terrifying thoughts and worries. She tapped her feet in impatience, resulting in a rustling sound over the dry autumn leaves carpeting the pathway. She constantly glanced at her wrist watch, only to realise that just a few seconds had passed since her last glance.

And then she could finally see, the arrival of her much awaited guest, her 'knight-in-silver-armour'. She ran across the flower beds and reached her. The two women stared at each other, trying to say a lot of things, but unable to utter a single syllable. They drowned in each other’s eyes, as the huge lump formed in their throats. As the stars begun twinkling, and as the two hearts met, her hand slid into hers, and the sky, blushing purple, witnessed the togetherness of the two passionate lovers.
